There should be a code stamped on the casing, depending on the manufacturer. That should indicate the taper. Logarithmic isn't necessarily standard for passive volumes, actually. But it might be the spec for that particular circuit and device.

The "C" usually designates a reverse taper. If you have a meter, you can actually sweep the carbon track and see.
