7 string pickup recommendations

Hi everyone, it's a standard 'looking for a pickup' type thread.

Here are the specs of the guitar:
wenge neck, korina/limba (whatever you want to call it, it's all the same) body, thru neck and hardtail bridge. Pickups are passive, 2 humbuckers. Guitar is in progress at the minute so has no pickups at all, these are the first and hopefully only set that it will have.

I'm primarily a metal player, but not into the more extreme end of the spectrum.

For the bridge pickup I want something that is good for rhythm work of the big heavy power chords and heavy chugging kind , it has to be a real earthshaker, but I want it to sound decent if I'm in the mood for playing clean.

For the neck pickup I want something nice and creamy sounding for solos. Think along the lines of Dave Murray type solo sounds (I'm not looking for identical here, that would be quite difficult, but the closer the better)

PS. Custom shop is not a viable option. The pickups can be of any brand, preferably duncans, and preferably not dimarzio (just don't like the name, don't argue)

Thanks to anyone who helps out here!

Well considering you're using darker sounding woods in that guitar, I would suggest something like a calibrated Distortion setup. The neck is surprisingly low output (it was once a low-medium gain bridge pickup) and the bridge pup, is really cutting and articulate but can also do really clear clean sounds (I use it in my 6 string guitars).

You'd get that creamy sound with either an Alnico II Pro in the neck (if it is too dark, switch out the magnet for an A5), and get the chunkiness with a Custom in the bridge. If the Custom has too many mids in that wood combo, switch out the magnet for a A5 magnet as well.

Thanks for the input!

I'll take both recommendations into account. Never swapped magnets in a pickup before, but considering that it is a mod that it brought up a lot, I guess it can't be the hardest thing in the world to do.

Any more input greatly appreciated, it's awesome to hear what everyone thinks!

Swapping magnets is easier than replacing a pickup. There are lots of tutorials out there- you'll be fine.
