the woods in my guitar is a Ash Body and Maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard.

I'm thinking of these pickups

Bridge Position

Invader
Custom
JB

Neck Position

Jazz
'59

What do you guys think?

Invader = pure mud, especially on a 7. I used to have one in that very axe.

I'd go for a Custom or Drop-Sonic in the bridge, Air Norton in the neck.

Re: 7 String Pickups for ESP H207

well I was looking for a Dark Sounding Bridge pickup and I was listening to Nile and I love how Karl Sanders gets a nice Growl on his guitar. He uses a Invader and his woods are about the same as mind but he's a baritone 6.

Baritone? Nile use 24.75 scale guitars for the most part, unless his KXK is baritone?

If you notice, Nile's tone is kind of muddy - sounds like an Invader to me.

I'll second Jeff on the Air Norton-7 for the neck. That pup is great.
Very dark pups on sevens just sound wrong to me. You can always darken up a tight and cutting sound by turning up the bass on the amp, but try getting tightness out of a loose and dark pup, that's not gonna work really well.
You might want to try the custom-7 or Evolution-7

I never found Nile's tone to be muddy at all, the Low A gets a really nice growl if you ask me. You guys really recommend mixing pickups a duncan and a dimarzio?

Re: 7 String Pickups for ESP H207

mixing duncan and dimarzio isn't a problem by any means(at least when we are talking buckers). If they are out of phase with one another, just flip the hot and ground wires of one of the two and you are good to go.

Re: 7 String Pickups for ESP H207

I've heard that 7 String Duncan's only come in Black Bobbins is this true?

Also is the Invader totally a muddy pickup or does it depend on your EQ settings?

I normally have my bass at the 9 O'Clock position Mid's around 12 O'clock and Treble 3 - 6 O'Clock depending on how much Treble is needed.

Check out seymourduncan.com to see if the color thing is true. There used to be a 7-string enthusiast on here that swore by the Invader. I wouldn't overlook the Distortion, but the Custom is a good recommendation.
