'70s Precision Bass

Bass_Medic_05

Purveyor of Low End
Fender P bass. I for one like the neck with the big black block inlay. I think I like it because it's easier for me to see lol.

Fender’s new Classic series ’70s Precision Bass authentically evokes the era when our first bass rocked with more versatile use than ever, from prog to punk and metal to funk. Vintage touches include bass-side thumb rest (first adopted in 1974), ’70s-style large headstock logo and bound neck with block inlays.

Features also include an alder body, C-shaped maple neck, maple fretboard with 9.5” radius and 20 vintage-style frets, classic split single-coil pickup, three-ply black-white-black pickguard, knurled control knobs (volume, tone), vintage-style four-saddle bridge and ’70s-style “Fender”-stamped open-gear tuners.

Re: '70s Precision Bass

What is the world coming to? Reissues of instruments that were not very good in the first place? The low quality of '70's guitars is what drove the vintage guitar market to even exist in the first place. But, hey, I do have two '70's Fender basses, just because that is what has come my way in life, and if you like the cosmetics, this is probably way better built and cheaper than a real one! :D

Re: '70s Precision Bass

The black inlays and binding originally appeared on the Jazz Bass. IMO, if you are going to recreate that cosmetic vibe, you might as well go the whole hog and include a J pickup.

Re: '70s Precision Bass

I remember the Jazz Bass having block inlays in the 70s but I can't remember Precisions with blocks. I thought they always had dots.

Just because I don't remember it doesn't mean it didn't happen :D

Same here--I don't ever remember seeing that combination before?!? Or are those "Classic" series supposed to be a type of "reboot"?

Re: '70s Precision Bass

I'm sorry, but block inlays and binding on a P-Bass is just wrong. Black pickguards on sunburst Fenders is also wrong.

When I first started playing, the first bassist I played with had a '70s P-Bass, natural ash with a maple nack and white guard. THAT will always be a '70s P-Bass to me.

Re: '70s Precision Bass

I dig I dig I dig... but is there a 70s jazz bass?

my bassist has a 70s P bass and it looks NOTHING like this.

Re: '70s Precision Bass

What would be cool is that big, wide P neck - including the block inlays - on a J body.

Unfortunately, Fender already makes that. They call it the Reggie Hamilton signature model.

And they price it as such.

you know my friend actually prefers the J neck.

does the spacing change much if you swap necks or is it just for the first 9 frets or so?

Ditto...but with a P pickup too. I like Jazz bodies, but I am not a fan of Jazz pickups or necks.

Re: '70s Precision Bass

The white one done in black = a take on the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass:beerchug:

Now show me a 72 Tele bass!! Rare as RHS!

Re: '70s Precision Bass

I want that white one. I really just want a new bass and I don't even play bass. What is wrong with me?
