70's strats? lefty content

Re: 70's strats? lefty content

it looks good to me. The reason it is so cheap (other than the fact that its a lefty) is probably because the description says it has a custom finish.

If the finish is not original then that knocks the price down i lot. If finish doesnt matter to you, go for it. It looks good to me.

The headstock logos look weird to me.

I've seen them like this.

I forget where, but there is a site that gives you the Headstock logos for Fender, and the Period they were used. It's a useful tool for correctly dating.

Looks honest enough a guitar though!

Re: 70's strats? lefty content

ya the headstock logos do look alien eh!!! could be the real deal, i wouldn't know much about lefties...

but ya the added humbucker, and the fact the body was stripped of finnish is why it's cheaper... no real collection quality here... more a players piece...

a friend of my dads had a 63 tele... he had loaned it to a friend in his drinking days and took him years to get it back... when he did get it back the guy had painted it with white house paint!!! to make matters worse he freaked and told the guy he had better remove the white paint before he gives it back... well the guy removed the white paint and too much wood! The guitar sat in the basement for years in pieces and he took it to a vintage shop last year to see if they would be able to repaint it... he ended up selling it to them for $2400 as the refinnish work was too much for him to pay and he wanted the money... it was pro refinnished and the body shape is messed up from the sanding it took years ago.. store wants $9000 for it now...

moral of the story is even a bad guitar can be saved... if 70's strats keep going up in value buying a distreased one may not be a big deal after all... mind you it all depends on the buyer and what he plans to get out of it... me myself i am trying to stay away from wrecks..

The Strats from that era have a reputation for being made of extremely heavy body wood, which kills resonance/sustain. The last 70's Strat I picked up felt like it was made of concrete. It also had no forearm contour for some reason.

Bad feedback seller, too.

The humbucker also kills price since it requires a route, and the guy didn't include a photo of the route.

i think the most expensive 70's lefty on there is like $3400...

its just interesting that they are about 1/3rd less than the RH ones, and affordable.

Here's a shot of my own lefty '78 Strat .... the headstock logo on the one in the auction is correct.

Mine is a three tone burst made of ash and it is also very heavy.

The bridge saddles on the Ebay one have also been changed.

If you want a vintage player, something that's been modded is a great way to go. You pay a fraction of the price, and can further mod it without ruining your investment.
