78 model custom shop vs 78 model basic line production

Hello,

as seymour released the "normal" production version of the 78 model.

i have a few questions for those having both : do they sound the same ?

something seems weird : the custom shop version has plain enamel while the current standard version has poly nylon. You can see it threw bobbin holes.

https://youtu.be/d18UtfJCKVM?t=98

how could they sound the same with such a big difference in wire type ?

Or is it that in the video the humbucker demoed isn't the right one ?

if the custom shop won't produce them anymore i guess they will become extremely expensive collector items very soon... As very few will want to sell them...

Where are you getting your information? My Custom Shop 78 has the same copper showing through the bobbins as the production model seen in the video.

The Custom Shop will make any production model, if that's what you want. The '78 is still the first one on their humbucker page.

Thx for your answer.

Well it's nice that they keep the custom shop production of the 78 model. As there is no more actual way to order them online you have then to call them directly or mail them.

however the original 78 model is plain enamel which has dark brown color. Why did they change the wire for the 78 model ? i just want to have an explaination.

it seems that some batches of 78 are poly nylon and others enamel... This doesn't make any sense.

i dont have a 78, but the product description does mention plain enamel. not sure what the discrepancy is

When I search for the wire, plain enamel doesn't appear to be always dark. But I'm not a winder. I would suspect a typo on the web site before I would suspect a difference in the pickups. The wire on my original Custom Shop matches the current production model, so whatever they use, it hasn't changed.

all the wire is copper, so looks about the same color. the thicker the insulation, the more color itll have. for PE its a purple color, the thicker the coating, the darker it gets. min-nom coating is usually a lighter purple color, nom-max is a dark purple, sometimes even looking almost brown.

I’ve had my cs ‘78 for so long I bet it was rivaling production units in volume. I thought it more of a convenience to customers than compromise of components.
