'79 Antigua dilemma...

I bought this guitar new in 1979... I purchased this particular guitar because it was the best sounding Strat in the shop, not because I cared for the finish (at all)
Even though I sold the "Ten Ton Body" years ago... I feel like I want to keep all the serial numbered parts together... Neck, Pickguard and Owners Manual.
Plus the case is in great shape considering all the gigs I have played...

I have used the neck all along and it has turned very dark and golden... and has some pretty cool wear on it after all these 33 some years.
Well... I'm ready for a change... I'm not a collector... Maybe this neck and other parts would be more valuable to me to sell. I want a new neck...

The dilemma... What color body matches a pickguard that looks like "toe jam" or the "core of a puss filled cyst"? Olive Green, Vintage Cream, Black???

Do you think I could sell these parts on eBay as they are? With no body? and Yes, The Pickguard is beat to Sh$t and has extra holes in it etc...
The last picture is the guitar as I have used it for the last several decades... I want to keep that body!

Do the parts have any value? What would you do? I just don't know... What I would like is a new neck and some money left over...

Re: '79 Antigua dilemma...

Tidy, original '79 parts should sell. The modified pickguard, maybe, and for less money than you might have wished.

An A/B comparison between my brother's 1979 Jazz Bass and my 2003 AVRI '75 model shows that the American re-issues are very much better built than the real thing. The 2012 AVRI series is better again.

I just feel like I want to keep everything together... Ya know? Even though I know it's only an Owners Manual, Neck and Pickguard...

I hear online... that the new Fender HSC are not so well made... It is true? Is there value in this old HQ case?

Re: '79 Antigua dilemma...

The ideal buyer for your 1979 Fender items is somebody restoring another Stratocaster from the 78-80 period. (Body and neck dates do not always match perfectly.) Actually encountering this ideal customer is another matter.

As for Fender cases, do you mean the G&G vintage-looking ones, the SKB type or the latest type with the chunky protected fastenings?

Re: '79 Antigua dilemma...

The current black, blond and tan cases are all made by G&G. The look is evocative of a bygone era. Unfortunately, so is the degree of protection against impact and variations in temperature and humidity.

I find the single most annoying weak spot on the G&G cases is the plastic strip for the pop fastener that holds the lid of the internal compartment closed. This can fail very easily, spoiling a two hundred Dollar case for the sake of a few cents.
