‘83 Kramer Pacer Deluxe Project

‘83 Lefty Voyager Maple Beak Neck on an ‘83 Pacer Deluxe Transparent Black Maple Body, Vintage ‘85 OFR with 42mm Big Brass Block. It’s going to get Suhr Michael Landeau Standard Neck & Middle and a SD TB-4J Bridge.

One of the best build platforms of all time.

I had the HH and finally sold it a couple years ago because I just don't need the range of a Floyd anymore. But one of the less expensive designs out there and definitely good for mods.

Agreed! I have a HH (.83 Pacer Imperial with Maple Neck and Three Color Sunburst Finish Maple Body) and it's probably the best guitar I own.

I don't think I've ever seen a Kramer in that colour before! If it sounds half as good as it looks, it is going to be awesome!

Thank you. It’s definitely an unusual finish for a Kramer. If it’s as good as my Maple Board/Maple Body Pacer Imp I will be very pleased.

Done...well...other than some black vol/tone/tone knobs.

Wow! Funny, I don't remember liking them in 83 as much as I do now.

Right there with you on that comment. That said, there is something special about these Early USA Made Kramers. 1983 was the first year for factory equipped Schaller Tuners and Floyd Rose Original Double Locking Tremolos from the Neptune, NJ Factory - no doubt due to Edward Van Halen's influence as a Kramer Endorsee at the time. Also, was the last year of production for the Beak Headstock as it changed mid-year to Hockey Stick Headstock.

Re: ‘83 Kramer Pacer Deluxe Project

I'd put nylon hole inserts on the volume and lower tone and run the volume pot in the middle spot. That's really cool though. Love the color. The beak necks are my fav. Much more chunkier than the pointy era necks.

You sure it's not a refin? The only original factory trans colors I remember are red, blue and green. It doesn't quite look like a Kramer body from that era to me. It's not offset enough and the upper horn is not thin enough. Compare it to this: https://reverb.com/item/4035440-vin...d-floyd-rose-dimarzio-rare-maple-body-evh-era.

Erik,

Thank you! I do need to put a plug in the hole for the DPDT. Guy I picked it up from said he had it for at least 15 years and it came to him with a Maple Neck (which was hanging on his wall with a broken truss rod). He had replaced it with a Charvel Neck and swapped that neck off onto a Charvel SoCal body and this body had been collecting dust. He believe it to be a custom build due to the finish. Body shape mirrors my 3 Color Sunburst so I don't have any doubts on it being OG Kramer.

The darkness of the edges is probably hiding the curves so it looks a little different to me, like the upper horn. If he had it for 15 years, I wonder if the body is from the fire sale and whomever bought it had it painted that way. Certainly plausible considering all the mutts out there. There is one man that would know for sure if that was painted in '83 or not as he worked in the paint shop back in the day.
