when modding a squire.. Guitarfetish is your friend.. I bought the locking tuners and the "import" bridge with brass block, and alot of smaller parts.. The only thing I dont trust from them are the electronic components.. I prefer to buy the pots.. switches.. ect from somewhere else..

Only thing I dont like about my squire is they weight but I bought it for the color... vintage cream

Their eletronic components are Alpha, which isn't bad. Direct fit for import guitars. Their pickups are impressive depsite the cheap cost.

Hmm, well maybe for now what I will do is tear the guitar apart when the new pickups show up. I'll remove the tremolo and copy the piece of junk block (zinc?) And make one of good quality steel. Test it out and see how it feels. I found a place that sells the Japan squier pick guards so I might give them a shout. Expensive so it isn't high on the list right now.

dude.. buy you a $20 "real" strat replacement pickguard and just mod it to fit..Its alot cheaper in the long run.. most of the time.. its the screw holes that wont line up and perhaps the part around the neck and bridge needs to be shaped for a good fit..I could of gone with a custom one and it would of been nice.. but damn $80 for what I wanted..took me less than an hour or 2 to get it right and my pickguard required a hellava lot more work than your would

something I posted awhile back..i have her looking pretty good, but still need to either install the LSR nut i bought for it or cut and install a graphite one.. the middle pup will be swapped out soon.. has a SD sc101 in her BUT im doing away with all seymour duncan/dimazio pickups and going with another pickup maker in all of my guitars..


as far as I can tell.. its likely a mid 90's MIK squire.. Serial # doesn't coincide with nothing on the fender database

all things are possible with a bit of vision and the patience to see it through

which would be closer? Mine is 8 hole, so get a fender 8 hole, or mod for an 11 hole? I didn't want to grab a pick guard until I confirm that this is actually an MIJ body. Are 8 hole squier pick guards only from Japan? I have a couple saved links on eBay for 57 strat pick guards with 8 holes, so I am leaning in that direction. Seems like the MIJ strats are 57 or 62 "copies" unless they are official re issues. I thought mine might be a reissue, but according to the page that describes the MIJ "reisssues" I'm missing one or two things for that.

lots of templates on the net.. print a few out and see what yours matches would be one to go about it.. very labor intensive IMO..

one thing I have grown to hate about modding guitars is the fear that the parts I ordered with my limited resources .. will not work or fit as I intended.. seriously spent like $50 to $75 on parts I didnt need.. changed my mind.. etc

I don't mind ordering parts, I hate being soaked for shipping and customs fees. Being north of the border sucks. Even trying to find something as simple as a few pots can be a major pain in the butt. And if you order from someplace like eBay a 5 dollar pot costs 15 to ship.

I found some templates online and printed them out at work. When my pups arrive I will strip the guitar down and see how close I am to finding the correct pick guard.

The saddles on the vibrato are not MIJ, got any pictures of that body with the pickguard removed?
Masking tape is pretty normal in old 80's stuff!
Got any pictures with the neck removed as well??
Pictures of the neck pocket and the vibrato cavity also would be great!

when i get the new pickup set i will be tearing down completely. i'm just having fun playing it right now. I will take plenty of pics.

stainless steel tremolo block. Almost finished. Just need to drill and tap for the arm and the plastic sleeve.
