9v parallel wiring?

Hey, I have emg sets on a guitar I purchased. It has the 18 volt mod.

I will be replacing the emg's with blackouts but I read that they don't need 18v mod. So I want to rewire this thing to use the 2 9v batteries in parallel to double the lifespan. problem is i dont know how it's done. I seen diagrams for the 18 volt mod but none for wiring 2 9v in parallel. Anyone here know how?

Re: 9v parallel wiring?

Sounds to me like an unnecessary complication.

Why not simply take one battery clip out of circuit and restore the original 9v arrangement? Better to keep the normal battery life and replace often enough to avoid any possibility of corrosion.

Re: 9v parallel wiring?

+1 to FF's suggestion.

If you are worried about battery life get a few rechargeable 9v batteries and pop a new one in each time you pickup the guitar.

Disagree. Unless your instrument has an active/passive switch, rechargables and active electric guitars or bass guitars are a bad combination. The charge drops away suddenly, leaving the player stranded.

Re: 9v parallel wiring?

Thanks for the responses but its still something worth learning. For anyone else interested in this I found a diagram for parallel wiring using a mini toggle switch.

I need a diagram without the mini toggle.

Re: 9v parallel wiring?

If I am understanding you right, just consider hooking up 1 nine volt. Now do it with the other 9 volt also to the same connections. From the pic above, don't worry about the switch, on the left snap you have the red going to the pickups and the black going to a point on the switch. Move the black up to the ground pin.
Now for the second 9v snap, you have the back going to ground and the red going to the point on the switch, move the red up to the pickup pin. Both reds from each snap go the the pickups point above and both blacks go to the ground point above.

Make sense now?
You might want to contact the company as they may have suggestions or precautions against this type of connection.

Re: 9v parallel wiring?

Thanks I understand what you are saying and sounds simple enough. But yeah your right I might as well contact the manufacturer to get approval I don't want to end up with a 100 dollar paperweight.

Re: 9v parallel wiring?

Welcome!
Do a search. Ive asked about 18v mod and someone posted a Great diagram on both correct and parallel.

I have to ask, is your user name dirived from the Halloween movies??

Re: 9v parallel wiring?

Thanks I will do the search.

You guessed right. Partly from Halloween and also from me bein a kung fu movie junkie. In the kung fu scene these are called shapes
