A Face Lift for my Carvin Bolt kit...

Can't find any of my old pictures of this axe at the moment, but it used to be an S/S/S, and had a white pearloid pickguard. Now, the pickguard was awesome, looked great by itself, but did some major clashing with the orange dye and black hardware. Icky.

So, I swapped out the pickguard with a Black Diamond Plate guard from Sharp Concepts. Put an Invader with an alnico 8 in the bridge, and a '59 neck. Two Skull knobs for the volume and tone, and a kill switch. I had to route out a bit of wood around the neck pickup route, though, as the body wasn't quite designed for 2 humbuckers. No problem, used a dremel and sanded it away...actually looks decently clean.

The result? Very happy with it. This is a very heavy piece of swamp ash, and mixed with the maple neck/fretboard this makes for a very naturally bright guitar. The pickups balance that out a bit by being on the darker side of the spectrum. The mix is very interesting, and makes for a very aggressive sounding axe!

And here's some pictures :). I'd still like to put on a new truss rod cover, but that'll come later.
