Hey!

So I’ve never built a guitar before and trying to recreate one of Kurt Cobains strats. He had a Seymour Duncan 59N in the bridge position and I’ve just picked a vintage 80/90s one on eBay but I have a few questions and hope you guys can help!

1. the label looks to say 59NL, what does the L mean?
2. A brand new one was onto £20 more, is a vintage one the better option?
3. it seems to only have one cable, no ground?

many thanks

Yes, solder the braided shield to the back of either pot, and the inner 'hot' wire will go to the same place the bridge hot wire goes now.

I think the L might be the initial of the person who wound the pickup

Yes, its from the timeframe with the rubber stamps with winder initial. Its Lidia Daniels initial and probably made between 1988 amd 1996.

Later on end of Ninties / beginning 2000s Duncan made computer printed tags with an L, but these seem it say made with the new old Leesona maschine.

Lidia Daniel, (no "s"), is an unsung hero at Duncan. I've had a bunch of her pups. All excellent. Cheers to Lidia.

(I wonder, and hope, she's still there.)

Forgot the apostrophe, it should say: It’s Lidia Daniel‘s initial ….
