A few Tele schematic Q's

Can anyone find me a schematic for a tele wiring with a 4 way switch? I can't seem to find one that seems terribly clear. The switching would be Bridge/Both Seriees/Both Parallel/Neck. In addition to this, I've heard you have to disconnect the ground to the neck pickups cover, how would I do this?

I plan on using Lollar T Specials, they are supposed to have a bit of output, so would 300k pots make sense? And for the tone capacitor, some places on tele's are using .22mfd and others .47mfd, what would you suggest?

I have a feeling Artie shall come to my rescue.

danke, could you explain the lugs on those switches to me though? I'm used to a true schematic design of a switch, and those are really throwing me off.

As far as the .22mfd or .47mfd capacitors, what would you suggest?

Also, I assume you mean .022 or .047. I prefer .022uf myself. Just rolls off the top end then.

Quick note: If you saved those diagrams to your computer, reload them. I left a jumper off of each. Fixed now. :smack:

Using a .22uf or .47uf would extend the cut-off range down below the guitars lowest frequency. You would, in essence, have converted the tone control to a volume control. All the frequencies would go to ground. ;)

So the the greater sized capacitor, the more frequencies it drowns starting from the high frequencies?

Exactly. Thats why you often see a .1uf cap on the input and output of a guitar pedal circuit. They want all the guitar frequencies to pass thorugh, but block DC. A .22 or .47 is even larger. On the opposite extreme, a .001uf cap would just tweak the very top end of the tone, and a 1 pf probably wouldn't do anything. All the frequencies passed would be above the guitar range.

I would offer one teensy caution with that diagram. I'd move the ground thats on the back of the tone pot over to the volume pot with the rest of them. It may not be a big deal, but in that drawing, you're relying on making the guitars entire ground through the bent tabs that hold the tone pot cover on. Those were never designed to be an electrical connection.

Like I said, not a big deal, but if you keep that guitar for 10 years, it might become an issue. ;)
