Hey guys.
Like alot of tube-amp owers have said, solid state high-gain (amps and pedals) has too much 'fizz' on the top end (Think randalls, SS marshalls for that Ill Nino, Static-X tone).
I think I've found a solution. I heard some clips of that harmonic coverger pedal. First WITHOUT the H/C after a distortion pedal, then WITH the H/C after a distortion pedal. It sounds to me the H/C engages a low pass filter at around 6k, and boost the uppers mids around 1.5k - 2.5k. I think I was able to put together my own H/C using the gear I've already got.
I used a SD loaded Schecter -> DOD Supra distortion (cranked right up, lots of fizz!) -> BOSS GE-7 -> BOSS GE-7 (yes, another one) -> Randall G3 head -> Marshall 1960A.
The secret to killing the fizz and simulating the H/C was this.....
1. Take the 6.4k bands on each EQ pedal and drop it all the way down.
2. Boost the bands 1.5k and 3.2k to get back any lost highs from step on the 1st EQ pedal.
3. Adjust the mids, lower mids, and lows to to your liking.
4. Fine tune any frequencies on the 2nd EQ pedal.
What i ended up with was a tube-like sound you would hear from a professionaly recorded CD.
I just wanted to share that with everyone, because on the hundreds of 'fizz' threads I've read (especially on the BOSS forums), I havent heard of anyone doing that before. If anyone has 2 GE-7's, I'd like to know if this worked for you.
