A full shred observation.....and a facepalm.

I installed a full shred set a while back and while loving them, i didn't hear the brightness that others heard. Articulation? Sure. Modern metal? Not so much. More of a really good vintagey rock type pickup.

After an epic facepalm moment, i discovered why my experience was so different.

I HAD MY AMP SET TO TRIODE MODE!

I practically never use pentode/full power mode because my amp needs to be loud enough to overcome a ratty fizz that rides over my tone until i hit small bar gig volumes. That said i all but forgot about the switch.

While playing clean the other day, i hit the switch to full power and heard the most detailed sound i have ever heard out of a set of humbuckers! I switched over to the gain channel and turned the gain up to obscene levels and........now i get it.

Now, what i really wanted to say (besides that i am an idiot sometimes) is that the full shred set works damn well for classic rock type stuff in triode mode. The "elastic" feel and loss of/smoothing out of the high end counteracts the precise character of the full shred nicely.

A truly great set of pickups

Now, if i could find a way to make the 1/2 power switch footswitchable...............

Yeah for my low output pearly gates I just turn up the gain when the master volume is also turned up to hit that. When I used my duncan distortion I had to lower that gain.
