i have been using a (sovtek) EH big muff. it doesnt matter what guitbox i use. the only change is when i roll the tone down on the guitar. i know this pedal is more than a fuzz pedal. i also know its cheap.

any others that i should check out?
what do you use?

oh, and i play mainy classical and flamenco, j/k

Re: a fuzz pedal that doesnt alter tone?

well, i like the way the big muff sounds, but when i switch pups, you can hardly tell. i want a fuzz pedal that doesnt "milk" my tone..... is that possible?

Re: a fuzz pedal that doesn't alter tone?

I've never encountered a Fuzz pedal that doesn't alter tone.(Mainly why I've Never uses one) I had a Diaz Square Face that turned my tone to Mud. I've tried the Dallas arbiter and the Russian EH Fuzz face. All sounded like Foocokaka to me.:13:

Re: a fuzz pedal that doesnt alter tone?

I think i might know of something that you might want to hear !

Go to "effector13.com"

They have the "kP" pedal (Karaoki Party - don't larrf).

It is a boost pedal, with a slight Fuzzy-under-tone.

Listen to the samples, it just might tickle your fancy !!!

Let us know what you think !!! (?)

Re: a fuzz pedal that doesnt alter tone?

With my Muff I can hear a difference between pickups right away.....the bridge is a little brighter and more jagged, and the neck is super smooth.

Anyway, I'd suggest checking out a new Little Big Muff and a Fuzz Face.

Re: a fuzz pedal that doesnt alter tone?

I dont know what flavor of fuzz you want, but my duncan Tweak Fuzz allows me to hear a big difference when switching between pickups

Re: a fuzz pedal that doesnt alter tone?

Stonabus, you need to find out what type of "fuzz" tone you are looking for. To me, there are two general types off fuzz tone: early/nasty/splatty, and the later/creamy/compressed tone.

I went on a fuzz-quest recently, and got this one:

Home Brew Electronics UFO FUZZ. Street price $155 including shipping.

Click the link, and scroll down to the UFO Fuzz (Made in Arizona, USA). The sound clip is nice, but does not begin to show the full potential of this pedal. Note: At 38 seconds into the sound clip, you hear the octaver kicked in.

I tried the SD Tweak Fuzz, but found it to be too mellow. It's not a bad pedal. It seems to be better at waming up a transistor amp, than it is at creating a righteous fuzz tone .......hmmm just like The Big Muff! It is also Made in China. :(

Good Luck!

there may be some good fuzz boxes out there that are more transparent, but with a classic circuit like a Fuzz Face, I think it's the nature of the beast ... they sound best with the levels cranked, the volume on the guitar full up, and the tone rolled off.
that will make things sound kinda the same, but that's the fuzz we know and love :)

Re: a fuzz pedal that doesnt alter tone?

I'm loving my Fulltone 69. It too is a fuzzface circuit.

If i had to do a gig with only one pedal, this would be it. Without a doubt.

 :scratchch :headbang: :arms:

Whatever you do, don't then get a Boss "Hyper-Fuzz", your guitar might as well be a leaf-blower...

Are you going to do the ol' flamenco/classical thing with the non-tone altering fuzz. If so, then maybe a nice tame one, Tweak-fuzz perhaps?

Re: a fuzz pedal that doesnt alter tone?

wuts that guy holding in yer avatar?

oh, and i think im going to keep the big muff. i took it off my board and cleaned it. i didnt bother taking photos of it for ebay, cause i put it back on the board. im too attached.

Re: a fuzz pedal that doesnt alter tone?

I think that fuzz is one of those things that you either love or you hate. It is the nature of the effect to radically change your tone. Sure, there are different types of fuzz tones, but my experience has been that guys either generally like it or they don't. You may just be one of those guys who doesn't like fuzz as much as you like overdrive, distortion, etc. There's nothing wrong with that.

Re: a fuzz pedal that doesnt alter tone?

You might also wanna check out the USA version of the big muff. It sounds completely different from the russian version. Both are great, but work better for different things.
The Usa Version has more emphasis on the highend and upper midrange, tends to sound less muddy with humbuckers, But doesn't have the Thump that the russian version does.
I use both versions at different times. Sometimes even Together (although Only if I'm trying to sound horrible). The Russian version Works great for those thick leads, psydo-synth sounds (with other effects of course) and thickening up the mix when playing rhythm. But It does get uber muddy at times, and It does sometimes have that "sameness" you described (when switching pickups, adjusting your guitars tone controls, etc...).
Its weird, Both pedals have the same Name, and Some of the same attributes, But are deffinately Very different pedals. Both good, but not nessicarrily for the same things.
I'de suggest picking up the Usa version too if you like the russian version. Only bad things about the usa version is its way Noisier than the russian version (i.e. more hiss), eats batterys a little faster, and doesn't seem to be as sturdy as the Russian version. But Unlike the russian version, it Comes with True Bypass Stock.
