Looking for a mod to do to my boss sd1... dont have any money and want it to sound better specifically for boosting my peavey... i normally have the overdrive set to 0 and level set to max, tone in the middle and eq from there. Its very fizzy... I can never get a brutal smooth overdrive out of it, its always super fizzy harsh etc... any mods i can do it that are cheap and sound good?

Re: A mod for boss sd1 for metal?

The SD1 is overdrive. You can make it more saturated, but it will always be overdrive.

The mod you want is some letter rearrangement........find someone with a DS1 and do a swap

Othewise you can clip the c6 cap and see how that goes.

Re: A mod for boss sd1 for metal?

You could trade it in for an mxr wylde overdrive. I believe the wylde overdrive was based off of an sd-1 modified to retain more low end. That or find the mod that makes one the other and do that. I'll look around for more about it.

Re: A mod for boss sd1 for metal?

your pedal settings are your problem, if you want more low end you sould put the tone knob at 0, back the level a little and add drive to compensate, i use a similar setting with an OD-3
(wich is darker tha the SD-1 and has a flabby low end) i run my V equipped with a dimebucker through it and then to my peavey envoy on the modern chanel, definetly more gain than i would ever need, not to say that the dimebucker is ridiculously hot itself, and also very bright, i use the pedal to smooth a little the top on the dime without loosing attack and addin some unnecesary omphhh (wich i enjoy havin' haha)

Re: A mod for boss sd1 for metal?

What Peavey are you using, exactly?
Is it sounding crunchy by itself already?

Re: A mod for boss sd1 for metal?

Save up enough money for the Monte Allums SD-1 GT mod. It rocks and made my pedal useable and versatile.

Re: A mod for boss sd1 for metal?

So wait, are you basically just using it as a boost and EQ? Maybe you should sell it and get a boost pedal? I actually use my Bad Monkey for the same exact thing, I rarely use the drive, I just use the level on the clean channel to drive my preamp. Is your Peavey tube or SS?

Re: A mod for boss sd1 for metal?

Im interested, but trading it for a wylde overdrive is gonna be pretty hard.... arent those worth more? and who would want to trade it.... no music store thats for sure.

Re: A mod for boss sd1 for metal?

a 6534+ im actually getting it retubed, i have a thread posted on what tubes to get to smooth out its already fizzy high end, it could just be the amp itself, bought it used and its 8 years old.

Re: A mod for boss sd1 for metal?

6534+, its in for a retube, i posted a thread wondering which tubes to pick for it, it could just be the amp, but someone else posted about clipping the c6 cap to maybe warm up the pedal abit?

Re: A mod for boss sd1 for metal?

Run the SD into the DS, then into the PV. Use the overdrive to boost the distortion pedal. You probably won't need the amp's distortion.

I didn't mean dollar for dollar, I meant trading it in for money toward, or selling it on craigslist or something. A wylde overdrive is like 50 used man, I don't know of you plan to mod it yourself and you're just planning to get the materials or have it modded for paid labor so I don't know what your budget really is.

ill do it myself, and maybe in the Usa is 50 used. But prices are pretty horrid in canada, id only be able to sell my sd1 for around 30-40 canadian, a wylde overdrive on kijiji is 130.

Re: A mod for boss sd1 for metal?

you need some khriss bliss on your amp!!!!!!

also khriss is a cool forum member pretty much the man to ask if you want metal tone for pennies

also trust me dude, you're using your OD HORRIBLY WRONG!!!, you should use it to boost low end, not mids and highs (tone knob past the half)
