hey guys...ever thought about a modelling pick up?
i know there are modelling guitars but a modelling pup would be nice.
a pup connected to a software with lots of classic pick ups in it and you select them with a rotary switch.
for example playing a ´59 and in the middle of the song you switch to something different like a PATB-2 :)

Re: a modelling p-up?

Shadow did something like that with their active bucker. Well, it's an onboard eq on the pickup itself. It has a list of settings that emulate various other pickups.

How well it works is beyond my knowledge, and I presume there's more to a pickup's response than cuts and boosts on a few fixed frequencies with a fixed value of q.

Re: a modelling p-up?

didnt roland have a hex pickup
that was used in conjunction their amps?

what are in the Line6 variax?

the variax has Piezo transducers built in the bridge saddles.
i guess if they made it to emulate different guitars it can be done to emulate different pickups.
thinking from a pick-up addict point of view :)

I think your over estimating it a bit. I cant ever think of a time when I wish that mid song i could swap pickup type.

I think it would wind up like modelling amps where you have people who mess with the huge array of amps and presets then wind up only using 2 or 3.

its almost purely the domain of bedroom players or maybe studio work. In a live setting the differences would largely get lost in the mix.

but there would be some people who would flock to it.

Maybe I'm just from a different school of thought. Instead of looking to patches, models and presets for sounds I can get a bewildering array of tones using a decent tube amp a TS9 and my volume knob and picking dynamics.

i can understand that...to each his own.
i like cutting edge stuff so i´m looking forward to this.
and i bet there are lots of guys who like a certain pickup for rhythm and who would like to be able to switch to something different for a solo.
