I find myself at home alone today, and so got out the amp, pedalboard, and some recently-acquired new pedals for some fun.
First, there's the fact that my Behringer CC300 stacking up well against the new (old) DC-2. See here for full report: https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?t=152467
Then, my modded SD-1 really gave the new Xotic BB Preamp a run for its money. For a few minutes there, I actually thought I like the SD-1 better and could sell the BB for big $$$. However, upon further testing I identified one big difference. The BB has much better definition. Percussive playing comes through a lot cleaner. If you want squashed, overdriven power chords, they are very similar and most tonal differences can be dialed out with the controls, but if you want to hear the pick attack and the spaces between notes, the BB wins.
But... I had thought for a while that my new dirt box setup would be the BB plus my Allums Recto Mod DS-1. After a significant amount of loud riffing and 3-pedal tap dancing, I can say that the lineup is going to be BB Preamp and the SD-1. The DS-1 is coming off the board. The Recto is a great mod, best I've found but in the end, I just like the overdrives better.
Also, I had thought buying a DC-2 would free up space on my board - setting "1" or "2" would replace my CE-2, and setting "4" would replace my BF-2 (which I run with the manual knob all the way down for an Andy Summers almost-chorus sound). The DC-2 is a clear winner over the CE-2, BUT... I'm not sure I want to remove the flanger. Need to think about this one some more....
