A new take on a traditional children's song (Trollmors voggesang)

I noodled around with a children's song here a few months back, and after a while I found some chords I really liked for this. So I went ahead to record the stuff I had to see how it panned out (Trollsang in a new wrapping, in a lack of a better title at the moment). I have more work to do on it, and I have intended to do something about it for a few weeks, but I just haven't got myself into it. I am not sure if it's a project I should finish. Basically I am asking you guys to be critics to see if this is something that can sound cool, or not. I want 110% honest opinions, so don't be afraid to shoot it down if need be. I am not hurt by that. ;)

There is something around the 1:50 mark; the whole thing gets in arrear for a sec or two. I am still scratching my head as to how it could happen, but.. I am also thinking that the distorted part towards the end should be held out.. I originally thought that it could make a cool break with the song, but now it feels a bit unnatural to have it there (it's too buzzy also -- I don't want to touch the numetal era, although I did anyway. Hrmph). There is also some of the notes that get real nasty with the bass -- I am not sure how that did happen.. I am thinking about what I will add to the mix in the chilled down bridge area.. A lead guitar and a synth pad or something.. The kick drums were supposed to end at around 4:30, not at 4:07 as it is in the sound clip.

That's some of the mistakes I have found so far.. Feedback on 1.) should I keep on with the effort?, and 2.) what other details can I work with? would be greatly appreciated..

I like to babble around, sorry. Here's the link: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=653154

Thanks!

Edit: I also uploaded a cover I tried to make of Eric Johnson's Song for George that I recorded a couple of years ago, but is it really legal to put that out on the soundclick pages? It seemed like it isn't tolerated, but I have seen so many put out covers of various famous songs.. I am new to the whole soundclick thing..

man this is great! don't change it! the distorted part is really good and you don't need changes there. in the middle part just go with guitar synth or something. i really liked the song.

Norwegian here too... Somehow that nursery rhyme reminds me of the "for whom the bell tolls" bass intro.

Haha! Well, not my intention, but I am glad it at least brought forward some good associations. ;)

It does sound indeed very good...nice job, lovely tune. How did you record it? It sounds pro in my ears.

About the other tune: I think you can keep it on SC but you could set up that it doesn't appear on the charts. I think you can find it on the "edit song info" or something like that and then remove it from the charts.

Thanks a lot for encouraging words!

I use a Lexicon Lambda for recording -- the acoustic guitar directly in.. A Studio Projects B-1 as a mic for the amp for the distorted part.. Cool Edit 2.1. I am glad that the recording aspect came out fairly all right, because that's where I have no clue.. I just tweak a little to where it sounds good enough to me..

Thanks for the tip on the SC pages. Will do it now!

Thanks man!

There's a reason for why it's an instrumental piece.... :)

Thanks Hoss!

I was shooting more for the overall atmosphere for the song.. I can't play flashy lines for the life of me, but I wasn't even trying on this one, and it wasn't the intention either, if you catch my drift.. So if you like the vibe of it, I am very happy to hear that.

I will try to finish this some time soon, so if any of y'all have got negative points about the track, this is the time to gimme a holler. ;)
