A partner for Vintage '54.

Any thoughts on what to put with a Duncan Vintage '54?I'm changing my stock Tele pickups.Should I play it safe and go STR-1 in the neck or do what Jerry Donahue does and use the APS-2 Alnico Pro II (for Strat).Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have an STR-1 and think its a GREAT neck pickup. I'm gonna sell mine though, cause i think i'm gonna go with a strat neck pickup or maybe a mini HB. If your interested let me know

I've said before that the STR-1 should go fine with a JD. The JD is like a somewhat warmer version of the Broadcaster, and the STR-1 is the recommended mate for that, so I don't think it's that much of a stretch.

I usually prefer to use the same type magnets in both pickups, but one of my best sounding strats has mixed mags, so it's no biggie.

The tone chart recommends an APTR for the JD, but at the same time says that JD personally uses the AP2 strat.
