Knowing guitarists' love of photostories, I thought I should do one for the assembly of my pedalboard. Enjoy etc.
The ingredients - a PedalTrain Pro, a box of pedals, a reel of DC cable (plus some offcuts of Sommer Spirit), a few power supplies and a lot of cable ties.
First job is bunging on the power supplies - there's a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power, a little SMPS for the Nova Modulator (the one it comes with is plugtop and hard to fit under the Pedaltrain) and the Line6 Variax XPS power supply. PedalTrain supply brackets for the PedalPower, the Line6 is velcro'd and cable tied on and the SMPS just cable tied. They all connect to a little IEC block under the right hand edge.
And a shot of the general underside. I've added cable tie bases and cable ties to take the DC lines later.
Next job is to lay out the pedals, make sure everything fits once the jack plugs are on. It does!
Now to make up the DC cables. Take one reel of 1-core shielded cable and a bag of plugs. I'm only putting the pedal ends on for now, the PSU ends will be done last. Tools for the job:
Strip and clamp everything in place:
Then solder. Neat enough. There's a plastic cover goes on over this.
Next it's time to start fixing the pedals down, which means making up the patch leads. More clamps!
Tin the plug (makes it much easier later):
Tin the shield and core of the cable:
Then clamp everything in place and solder the shield to the plug:
And then the tip:
First three pedals done. I didn't want to use velcro, so I've cable tied all the pedals down. Looks a bit odd but it works very well - they're rock solid.
Then flip the board over - time to tie down any loose bits of cable and then the next job is to run all the DC cables. Final few pictures tomorrow!
