A pick up between a SH-4 and the SH-11 (Bridge)

Hello guys!

I have played with both of these pick ups and i love them both.

I love the mid range the JB offers, the sound it produces when i play metal riffs on the Low strings is delightful, but i am not a fan of the thin sound it produces when i play on the high strings.

As for SH-11 , its the opposite, i love the sounds it produces on the high strings, though not so much on the low strings

and i would like a bridge pick up that has the low sounds of the JB and the high sounds of the custom custom.

Any help is appreciated, Thanx! =)

What he said. The Alternative 8 might just do the trick. But this is strange. Most people love the JB's high while are indifferent to its lows. I guess you're really after a smooth lead tone, eh? :D

hahaha yep you guessed it! smooth lead tone is what i was after, but the JB just sadly doesn't have that.

i checked out the A8 and i think i might have found the pick up of my dreams! :D

Thanx! you NAILED IT! i watched videos of the A8 in action and its exactly what i was looking for! it sounds like a dream!

the problem was trying to find a pick up that had similar mids to the JB, and you solved that problem for me :bigthumb:

It really IS a fantastic pup, and I think it will be just what you are looking for. I love everything about it myself.

Love the Alt 8, but there is someone on the trading post selling a JB/Custom hybrid. If it's still available, I'd give it a shot.

JB/Custom Hybrid sound like exactly what you are looking for... with an A5 or A4 magnet.

actually for some odd reason among the many SD pick ups the custom hybrid is my least favorite, there is something about the sound it produces that just bugs me :P

It has a really loud pick attack, a kind "chick" that is separated from the rest of the sound. Really obvious on high gain sounds. Watch Merrows high gain demo, and listen closely. That is what scares me away...

A few questions…

#1 Why not use the tone control? Just roll it back a touch. Or a lot?

#2 This makes me wonder about a JB/CC hybrid!?!?!?!?!

#3 I am a huge fan of the JB8 - have you tried that? Probably not as "in the middle" but definitely a step that way. Or perhaps a JB2? An A2 / A8 mag swap is like $2

I know it does not answer your question but what you describe is the reason why I switch between to bridge on lower strings and neck con higher strings and frets.

Re: A pick up between a SH-4 and the SH-11 (Bridge)

try putting the a2 mag from the CC into the JB and see how you like that.

^^
I still think that the UOA5 is a better choice. Or even a regular thickness Ceramic. What I really wonder would sound like is a UOC8 with it. Hmmmm...

Re: A pick up between a SH-4 and the SH-11 (Bridge)

JB/Custom Hybrid with an Alnico III magnet. In my opinion, the A4 is too flat sounding and the A2 is too muddy. A5 is too thin in this pickup, in my opinion.

+1 on the JB/Custom hybrid.

While not a JB, I do have a Distortion/Custom hybrid with an UOA5 and it's awesome.

Yeah I think you found your best option back at post 2. The Alt 8 is amazing for the aggressive lows and mids, with the smooth, singing top end.
