A tale of two Peters

No.... I mean Townsend and Frampton.

I found a deal on a Black Schecter PT. Complete insanity, taking in another so soon after swearing that my new goldtop PT was the last guitar I'd ever need.

So, I was trying to talk myself into/out of buying the black one. Point against: I already have one - why buy another of the same thing? Point in favor: Well, I could make it different from the goldtop. What could I do with a black PT to make it different?

Then, a wild thought hit me: the Frampton Comes Alive Tele!

LOL! I would never build this; middle pickups drive me crazy. (I can barely play my Nashville Tele unless the middle Strat pickup is lowered flush with the pickguard.) But as a hardcore Tele freak who's been listening to FCA a lot lately, I thought this whole idea was pretty funny.

Just imagine it with the frizzy hair and purple back lighting.:laugh2:

What's wrong with having more of the same guitars? Just ask Mike (XSSIVE). LOL
I want a few more Strats and I have one Fender and one I built.
If you love 'em and they suit you, go for it.

I like your thinking. Could you come over and explaing it to my wife?

Re: A tale of two Peters

Don't feel bad, I have 2 McCarty Soapbars and I'm contemplating a 3rd (I've got a wine red, a goldtop, I'm thinking a "black beauty" might be next) :smack:

If thats a big issue, I could always alleviate your issue. Just give that Black PT to me.

That looks like a cool idea.. but yeah.. I find the middle pickup if its a humbucker to be very annoying. Its just uncomfortable, and you hit it too much even with just a light pick stroke.

Re: A tale of two Peters

I say buy the Tele if it is cheap and you can afford it Rich.... But as far as adding a middle pickup i'm not sure..... It would be cool to have 3 pickups.... i had a Black MIM Strat with 3 full sized humbuckers and it was pretty cool.... In Fact i have been wanting to make my USA Strat a 3 full sized humbucker guitar oneday....

The PT fan in me says keep it stock.... but the fact it's just an imported cheaper guitar i say go for it if it will make you happy....

PS- Frampton's 3 pickup Black Customs are NICE!!!! As is Townshend's 3 pickup Deluxes of course....

Re: A tale of two Peters

As I said, I can't function with middle pickup - just tonight I was playing my Nashville, and looking around for my Seymour Duncan double-ended mini-screwdriver (given to me by Seymour and Scott themselves) to crank that middle pup down out of the way.

This was just a funny idea I had. Frampton would probably like it - I believe he appreciates a good Tele - there are a couple featured on his gear page.

If I buy the black PT, I'll keep the stock 2 HB configuration, but do the 'real maple Tele neck' conversion like I did on my goldtop. Maybe I could stick two Phat Cats in there for a Live Aid-meets-Live at Leeds kinda thing.

P.S. - Drat! I just checked... Phat Cats don't come in black.

When i had the 3 full sized humbuckers in my MIM strat i was hitting the edge of teh middle pickup all the time... it was a bit of a pain, but the tone options was so cool! My USA strat has the swimming pool route and if i don't like the pickups i can quickly change again...

Good luck on the new PT if you buy it... Maybe a Warmoth neck this time?

Re: A tale of two Peters

hey Rich.... if you don't mind me asking, how much are you getting the Black one for?

Re: A tale of two Peters

Do it. You regretted selling your first one so much, you owe it to yourself to get it back.

As far as jusifying it.....my signature says it all.

Well, the goldtop was supposed to cure that particular jones.

Anyway, I'm not bidding, for three reasons:

1) I played my goldtop for 20 minutes this evening. It's a wonderful guitar - I'm not likely to improve upon it with another.

2) As I was saying goodnight, my son pointed at his bedroom ceiling and said, Oh, yeah... I forgot to tell you about the roof leaking during the big thunderstorm yesterday." 30" circle of mushy sheetrock with textured paint. Time to call the roofer (for the 2nd time in as many weeks) and then the drywall & paint guy.
Roofs in Houston...:yell:

3) After the black PT sat all week at the temptingly low price of $150, it's started moving tonight. It's over $200 already - more than I want to pay for an entirely superflous 'want-don't-need' guitar. If I didn't already have one, I'd still be in the bidding, but not for an extra. It still needs the neck pocket routed, a maple neck, and two Duncans. I was only interested in it at the bargain-basement price.

Sometime after my wife's back at work full-time and the ceiling's not falling in on our heads, I'll buy a new black PT and stick a nice Tele neck on it. Or maybe a USACG body....

Sorry to hear about all the house trouble Rich....

only reason i've held off buying one of these cheaper Shecter PT's is because if i'm going to get a Townshend style guitar i want close to the same quality if i can..... So i'm trying my best to hold off until i can afford a Warmoth Bound tele body and tele neck... But saddly i have had a run of low cash for over a year now.... I did buy a MIM Fender tele that i really enjoy so that has my PT tele sweet tooth on hold for now. But oneday i want a PT style tele made out of quality parts....
