hi

i like classic sounds = reggae, EVH, thin lizzy in the 70's

4-12 stages?

rise and fall ? not really
tap tempo? is it really useful ?

so

mxr phaser 99
mxr phase 90
mxr mini phase 95

mxr evh

boss phaser

tc helix phaser ?

I think the classic sound, to me, is a 4 stage phaser. More stages sound more wild, and less classic.

Before you buy a phaser give a univibe a try they're surprisingly versatile

The best sounding phasers I've heard lately are
1.) Whirlwind Orange Box
2.) Keeley Phase 24
3.) DOD Phasor reissue

i wonder why there are not a lot of 12 stages phasers

The Boss PH-3 has a 12-stage setting. I think it's pretty good.

It might not sound like a Phase 90, but a univibe is a 4-stage phaser. I used to have an MXR EVH Phase 90 on my board, but it was recently kicked off by a Fulltone Dejavibe 2.

For the sounds you're after, a Phase 90 or 95 sounds like a great bet. Personally, I'd go with the EVH Phase 90 as I have a use for both the script and block logo sounds. The 95 doesn't really interest me as I've always found Phase 45s too subtle to be all that useful.

It does have more sounds, but they're ones I won't use. If you want Phase 45 sounds, the 95 is better. Otherwise the EVH Phase 90 can be found for less $$$.

so the EVH phase 90 won't sound like a 45 ? it has 2 sounds with the script knob too


i really don't know the differences : 45 /90

and what i can say is
no
mxr 95 : 125 €
mxr evh 174 € mxr signature are always more expensive ( EVH models, Bonamassa ) than the others

When I said it could be found for less, I was referring to the used market. The Phase 95 is relatively new while the EVH has been around for a while and tends to be easier to find used at a lower price.
