A Whirling Sound...

comes out of my amp whenever i have it on the distortion channel and i have no pedals on. i have a peavey valveking head with my pedal board ran in this order from guitar to amp:

Boss TU-2 Tuner
Dunlop Crybaby Wah
EVH Phase 90
Wylde Overdrive
Boss CH-1 Super Chorus

i have my effects ran through the guitar input. has anyone ever experienced a similar situation or does anyone know how to fix this?

Re: A Whirling Sound...

I usually suggest removing the pedals one by one until you hear it disappear. Does the same noise happen when you go guitar -> cable -> amp?

you know i think i tried that but i cant remember what happened. could that be a big problem if it still does?

Re: A Whirling Sound...

I work til 8:30 tomorrow, so we can't practice then, Thursday it is I guess.

I'll try and take a look at your annoying sounding amp before then... and I need to re-wire Tanner's bass.

you dont have to if you dont want. i can mess with it thursday when i get there i guess.

Re: A Whirling Sound...

could be as simple as a instrument cable... a co-worker was going nuts with a weird microphonic noise and it was not the tubes or the amp, or the PU's... It was the patch cable he used!!! the tech looked his amp over well and there was no microphonic tubes and then he tried his cable and it was the source!!!

Re: A Whirling Sound...

i took the chorus pedal off and the sound went away. i ran all the pedals by themselves one by one and there was no sound. i ran no pedals and there was no sound. but as soon as i put all the pedals back i get the sound. im just going to suck it up and deal with it.

This might sound weird, but are you using a daisy chain to supply power to all your pedals? If so, try eliminating the power supply/daisy chain (test by using battery power only)... If the noise is no longer present, then your power supply might be the culprit.

My 1Spot power supply was the source of my noise shortly before the 1Spot stopped working.

hmmm. hope my 1spot isnt going out. oh well i guess that would be upgrade time to the dc brick.

The DC Brick is just a daisy chain in a box. Not really an upgrade, as it's not individual isolated power outputs.

If you want a real power supply, check out voodoo labs. It will be the last power brick you will ever have to buy.
