I had this strange thought... if a humbucker is 2 coils that are wound such that they cancel each other's 60-cycle hum out... and there seems to be enough space UNDER the HB plate to stick another 2 coils... why not do that? Like a stacked bucker.
You could have on top: slug and screw like a normal HB, and then under the slug coil would be another slug coil, and the screw side underneath would hold the other bottom coil in place. It could be wired up for series, parallel, MASSIVE amounts of coil splits and phase stuff, and I suspect that if it was something like a brobucker / '59 combo, it would be high output yet clean, or if it was something like a double alt 8 (the V16 perhaps?) it would have an INSANELY high (almost active pup-level) output and yet be dead silent.
I'm almost inclined to try one out just to see... one as a low-power pup, one a double Alt 8 special... if my hypothesis would be right. My questions are:
a) would it be feasible / possible to make such a beast?
b) if so, would I be able to get one made up in the SD Custom Shop?
