A2 59/C neck / A8 Pearly Gates Bridge

My main guitar for live playing used to have a PGn and an A2 59/C bridge, but ever since getting my Wolfgang I've started to appreciate hotter neck pickups. So I decided to swap em!

The PGn I knew right off the bat would need an A8 just to keep up with the 59/C volumewise. I would consider putting an A3 in the 59/C to ease off the base a lil bit, but I'm honestly probably not going to stick with this configuration. It sounds really good, but as I mentioned earlier, I already have a guitar that's got this niche setup, so it's kind of redundant to have two guitars with it.

I will say though, if SD released an A3 44 awg neck humbucker that's wound ~2k "hotter" than a CC, I think that would be pretty slick. It would be a continuation of the long SD tradition of releasing pickups that "aren't related" to EVH.

I like a2 C/59 in the neck of my SG. I was going to get another and have A8 bridge and A2 neck but didn't get around to it. I have the a2 in the bridge now. I love it but wouldn't pair it with a high output neck PU.

Does the PG keep up?

Yeah, volumewise the PGn keeps up, but even with the A8 it could use a little more bass. I think a PGb would fair quite a bit better.

An A2 59/C is definitely a great pickup. If I recall that was the magnet that it was originally supposed to come with, but SD wanted to market it as a modern beefed up PAF and an A5 works better for that.

People used to say SD should release a 59/Jazz neck match for the 59/Custom, but I agree they should release an overwound one with smaller wire, maybe even degauss the magnet a little bit to clear up the low mids

A 59/Jazz hybrid neck is a great match for a 59/Custom bridge. For a hotter version, just use bridge coils for the same.
