A2 + A5 = Ok?

My Strat currently has a PG bridge, with SSL-2's N & M.

By keeping the SC's adjusted closer to the strings and the HB further away, I end up with a surprisingly balanced axe which allows me to use any pickup combo for leads (classic-rock-styled originals).

The one complaint I have is with the neck PU; a little too much low end for me when I'm pushing the overdrive channel in my Boogie. I like the tone from the same SSL-2 in the mid pos.

Anyone tried an APS neck w/SSL mid?

Any other suggestions? :boggled:

not that i can remember but i use a aps2 in the neck all the time. it has a warmer overall sound with a little less bass and bigger mids, less chime on the top too. i think the two will mix well.
sounds like a cool axe

Thanks!

It is a cool axe; I bought it for its HUGE maple/rosewood neck with intentions of dropping in Duncans ala Big Apple Strat, it just took me a few years to get around to it.

Re: A2 + A5 = Ok?

my local builder's favorite strat set is an APS neck/ SSL mid/ SSL-3 bridge

I agree with jeremy about the APS neck - warm tone

Re: A2 + A5 = Ok?

Thanks for the input, Curly. I imagined it would be a really useful combo based on all the threads I've tuned into lately.

Just go by sound. Usually, if they sound great on their own in a guitar, they sound just as good mixed with each other.
