A2 demon?

Has anyone tried putting an alnico II mag in a demon? I will be acquiring a second one soon and am thinking of trying this out. Seems to me that it would help thicken it up a bit, and cut back the highs a little. Any thoughts?

Re: A2 demon?

I didn't care for it in my LP. I was expecting a hot PAF vibe, but it just got a bit looser. YMMV

Re: A2 demon?

A bit, but It just made it too bland IMO. I think that the 12 fillisters mod works better.

Re: A2 demon?

I just tried one with an A8 and it was very good. I have an A2 in there now, but it was just to experiment with it in the neck position. I'll move it to the bridge with the A2 if I get a chance and let you know. I'll probably try the double screw mod at the same time.

Re: A2 demon?

Somebody on these forums tried it a couple years ago, but NOT in a Les Paul guitar, and it sounded like early VH to me.

I tryed it and went back to the A5 magnet....The pickup just lost something with the A2! I went with all fillister screws on both bobbin tops and it tamed the highs a bit...I had this pickup in one of my strats, but pulled it and went back to the Dimarzio Fred, which I always like better in this strat..

I still have the SD but it's with some of my other pickups that I really should sell..

Re: A2 demon?

With some folks complaining of too many highs, I wonder if a 250K pot wouldn't work well with the Demon. Funny how many ways there are to mod the pickup tone these days. Pots, Magnets, Screws, Rotating, etc.

I used a 250k pot for all 3 pots....Just too bright for me,as is the PG+

Re: A2 demon?

I use my SD with with the stock 300k gibson pots. Love it in my explorer. Definitely not too bright in that hunk of wood.
