A2 in a JB?

Well, it's been a general concensus that a ceramic magnet will approximate a Distortion when installed in a JB. What would the A2 mag in a JB come close to?

Re: A2 in a JB?

I've done it to the JB in my Hamer Sunburst Achtop. It retains the output and articulation of the JB, but adds warmth. It's a great mod to try. I guess, as far as a comaprison, it's falls between the CC and a JB. Just a guess.

And the A2 in the 59 you're about to try is a close facsimile of an Alnico Pro II.

What position was that in? I was going to do it in my Hamer Special FM matched with a Pearly Gates in the neck.

Travis,

The JB is in the bridge of my Hamer. Your Special is similar, as you probably know, to the Archtop. However, mine is a prototype that is all mahogany, so it will sound different in yours. My guess is that you'll love it, because it will soften the brightness of the maple top in the Special. GIve it a shot and let us know what you think.

So, would changing the magnet in a Distortion to an A2 have a simlar effect as the JB?

I have no experience with the Distortion, which I guess has a ceramic magnet in it. It would be best to ask Evan Skopp about this. Since your dealing with the JB, try the A-2 mod first. To me. it's one of the best sounding pups around.
