A2 pro in an SG standard?

I was thinking of trying an A2 pro neck in my SG standard. I wanted to get some thoughts. I have the Jazz neck in my 61 reissue and I really like it. Believe it or not, I'm not totally sold on my WCR darkburst neck in my SG standard. I have the RS kit in both guitars and the darkburst seems like it would sound better using a high gain amp. I play through a fender deluxe silverface at gigs and the wcr seems bright and a little stiff especially clean. I must say that I love the wcr godwood in the bridge but the DB neck is not cutting it. Any thoughts about the A2 pro?

What kinda music are you playing? I play an SG--but I played a Custom 5 in the bridge and it seemed a little on the sloppy side on the bottom end....Its got a similar EQ curve to the alnico II Pro-of course alot more output. So I think we have some unmetioned determining factors here. What kind of sound are you looking for?

Mostly we play classic rock, blues, and soul music...I'm playing mostly slide and leads. I wanted to try a godwood neck but from what I hear it's similiar to the darkburst in output. I really love the GW bridge pup. I'm just not prepared to fork out all that cash to try the GW neck with the possibility of having the same results.

What PU's originally came with your SG Std, 498T/490R? If you still have them, swap magnets between them & you'll get much better tones (put the A2 in the bridge for warmth & the A5 in the neck for definition).

A2 magnets add strong mids with little treble plus a loose low end. I just don't see them as the best choice for a neck HB. To me, there is always a better magnet choice. Your JazzN has an A5, and that's a factor on why you like it. More sparkle & cut. An A2P brings the A2's qualities with it.

What magnet does the DB have? Ohms? What's in the bridge?

If you're mostly playing slide, go with the APHn. It's smooth and thick with good sparkle in the treble region and enough mids to push your slide playing up front.

I put an A2 mag in the DB because it was extremely bright with an A5. I tried this pup on my Standard and 61 reissue with close to same results. The A2 mag sounds much better to me but the pickup still sounds a little stiff. IT's more noticable playing live to me but at bedroom levels not so much. I tried adjusting the height/poles but I can't notice too much of a difference. I'm not that picky when it comes to pups but the DB was expensive and I just don't dig it through my amp. I wish I had the stock pups now that I have the rs kit installed. I changed them because the neck was muddy but it'd probably sound great due to the electronic change. Right now I have the WCR godwood in the bridge which I like very much. I'm not sure how it with pair up with the A2pro. Maybe I should grab a set of stock pups on Ebay.
