Re: A2 vs A5

a5 gives a pup more bottom and top (bottom is usually full and articulate)
a2 gives a pup more middle (bottom is kinda spongy)

A5's crunch and scream
A2's sing

Re: A2 vs A5

I prefer Alnico 5 for bridge pickups, and usually neck pickups, but Alnico II is great in the neck, too. I'd like to see how your JB/Alnico II turns out. I'm thinking it might be like a CC with nicer highs and high mids?

Re: A2 vs A5

it was like a CC with a bit more in the top end. I noticed a bit warmer tone out of it as well. It was pretty nice and sounded great distorted in my epi 335.

Re: A2 vs A5

Think AC/DC for Alnico 5. Think Van Halen's "Mean Street" or "Dance The Night Away" for A2. As others have pointed out, A5 has more clarity and tightness, and usually more lows and highs. A2 has more midrange, softer lows and highs, and a looser overall sound. I like A5 in the bridge and A2 or A3 in the neck.
