A2Pro Neck magnet swap

Hi all, just posting for info so please don't burn me at the stake for
Blasphemy.

Having read here about magnet swaps I took the plunge and tried A4 and A3
In the neck of my LP (in an attempt to remove some chub).
The A4 sounded ok but lost too much personality for me, I tried a rough cast A3
and couldn't be happier, retained all I liked about the A2 but with less bass, a touch
more clarity for that Joe Perry type sound.

I know this place if a plethora of knowledge so I hope it will prove useful.

Peace

Re: A2Pro Neck magnet swap

So tell us, what kind of PU's are they? How do you like the bridge PU?

What's nice about A3's is that while the high end is softer, it's still bright, and the ample mids make the sound bigger. Plus A3's don't have the loose low end of an A2, or the excessive bass that A5's have in some guitars and woods.

The APH-1, foolishly I sold the bridge version in the same guitar before I knew how to use it (lack of experience) and regret it now. I have a 36th Anniversary DP223 in there, coil split, works well although I may mod that now too (not too sure about removing the air gap).

The A3 wasn't as weak as some have suggested, guess they do vary from supplier to supplier though.

Don't get me wrong, I like the APH-1n stock but for me with the RCA3 it's more open sounding but with A2 character, hard to describe. I don't use heavy gain so it works for me.
