AArgh!! WTH??

BloodRose

Lately, on the rare occasions I get to play.... Ill be playing along and then the volume drops on my amp and it will make crackle sounds.. Most of the time if I wait, or put into standby a min, itll come back. But play a couple min, will start again.. What the heck is the prob?
On the positive, I dont smell anything.
Any suggestions??

Re: AArgh!! WTH??

Probably a worn out tube(s). It's hard to say more without knowing what amp this is and if it happens only on a single channel or all the time.

Re: AArgh!! WTH??

Yeah, try new power tubes and see what happens.

Re: AArgh!! WTH??

I've had similar problem past week. 95 % of time works fine, occasionally starts to crackle and cut out. Somtimes tone went sharp and raspy, like playing through a subtle fuzz.

Since egnater has two sets of power tubes, I figured it can't be those as it was cutting completely out.

After couple of hours rolling tubes yesterday I was sure it was master volume, as it usually started to do that when adjusting it. Then I noticed same happening when sitting down while playing... turned out I had broken lead at the guitar end.

Re: AArgh!! WTH??

Remove, clean and reinstall all tubes. Also, move every single pot from zero to ten vigorously a few times. Could be a dirty pot somewhere.

Splawn Quickrod. (sorry, thought I put that in my text..) Tubes dont have that much time on them..

Do you notice the issue on both channels or only one of them? Also if you're on the OD channel, does the gain fluctuate or only the volume? Volume fluctuation points to power tubes or PI while gain fluctuation is most likely V1.

Re: AArgh!! WTH??

+1 to all of the above.
Tubes might not be old, but like anything else, sometimes, for a variety of reasons, they just go.

To paraphrase a buddy of mine, if it has wheels or tubes, sooner or later it's going to have a problem.

Hey wait
Wasn't it you that posted the exact same problem 6 years ago?

Do you have an effects loop

Take a pedal cable and jump it

Re: AArgh!! WTH??

Thanks for the input all. We thought we were losing our house, so between organizing/reading out and shuttling my kids and grandkids all over, Ive not had time to mess with it much.. I did take it off the loop setting and play it regularly (for a short period of time) and it didnt do it.
