about that bare 'ground' wire in a 4-wire pup

so what is it connected to on the pickup end? is it the plate? something else?

you'd think i'd remember from building a pup at UGD, but no ... seems the stuffing falls out of a bear with very little brain once it gets a certain age ... i totally remember soldering the red/green/black/white wires to the start and finish of the two coils ... but i totally mind cramp on what the shield foil and bare wire got soldered to ...

help a brother out? ... pics if you got em?

The foil is just a "wrap" that effectively makes the bare wire a shield. When you deal with the bare, you deal with the wrap.

So is the purpose purely to reduce noise? Is a pickup useable without one?
