Re: about to get my tax refund

Ive heard really good things about this guitar. I havent played one myself however, I have owned a MIM. Its not as bad of quality as some may think. With all things foreign I think its hit and miss. Play several. go over them with a fine tooth comb and take the one home that speaks to you..that plays and feels good in your hands.

Re: about to get my tax refund

I assume you're talking about the Fender MIM guitars? They're well made. From what I remember reading, the parts are manufactured here and the guitars are then built in Mexico. The Jimmy Vaughn Strat is a MIM.

Re: about to get my tax refund

Recent Fender MIM guitars are well assembled, the neck profiles are wonderful, the bodies tend to be on the weighty side and made from more pieces than would be ideal.

The MIM La Cabronita Telecaster is a perfectly playable electric guitar. With a few hardware and pickup upgrades, it would be an excellent guitar.

I am fortunate to be the owner of the production line USA version. It is featherlight, resonant as **** and sounds fabulous through a crunchy valve amplifier. There is no tone pot. Everything really is in yo' fingers.

Glenn. If you can afford the Fender MIM but want an American guitar, why not direct your funds towards Mr. Warmoth and Mr. Thomas Vincent Jones? :naughty:

Why on Earth would you be nervous about Fender MiM quality? They've been building high quality instruments in Ensenada for decades. I've got a mid 90's Tele that's been my #1 for 15 years. The big reason they're more affordable is that labour costs in Mexico are a fraction what they are in the USA.

Re: about to get my tax refund

I'd only be scared if it were made in Puerto Rico. LOL

Honestly, the Cabronita is a lot of guitar for the money. You probably don't even need to change anything on it, unless you feel the need to upgrade the pot and pickups. The tuners and bridge are perfectly fine.

Re: about to get my tax refund

I've read a lot about the MIM Cabronita in particular that people say it's not entirely perfecto due to string spacing issues if I remember right.

I love my MIM tele and the Mexi-build quality is pretty great but I think he's maybe just referring to this one model.

Or not, who knows

Re: about to get my tax refund

Fender's MIM Guitars are top notch, well made instruments . I wouldn't worry. You're getting a lot of bang for your buck there.

Re: about to get my tax refund

I get where you guys are coming from. Something about that blonde one just didn't feel right. I'm not going to go back and buy it. I'm also a little pissed that it's $600 and doesnt even come with a gig bag.

I'm pulling the trigger on a valve amplifier instead.
