Abrupt Tone Pot

Hi guys,

Soldered in the original pups in an Epi LP according to this:

2 Hum, 2 Vol, 2 Tones, 3 Way

And I'm getting a sudden tone change around the 3 area on both neck and bridge.

Tone pots are new, 500K. But they are/were labeled B500K.

Could it be the "B" (meaning linear) that's causing this? Or should I be reversing a connection somewhere?

Re: Abrupt Tone Pot

Yes, it's very likely the linear tapper tone pots.

If you do 50's wiring between the vol and tone pots, and/or have the volume turned down, that can also mess with the tone control tapper.

Re: Abrupt Tone Pot

I have this issue in one guitar too, whereby nothing would change on the tone pot until the very tail end of the movement, and was at a loss to what was going on - is this simply rectified by changing to audio taper for the tone pots then?

It didn't happen when changing my LP to 50s wiring though, though I'm not sure off the top of my head as to whether it has As, or Bs for tone pots.
