AC or DC adapter confusion...

In my HAO Sole Pressure manual it says that I should only use a DC adpater.

I have a Ibanez AC109 adapter that I ordered from Thomann.de last year. Link: http://www.thomann.de/fi/ibanez_ac109.htm

Model number sats AC109... but in the description it says DC adapter. What is what and what will happen if I use a AC adapter if it says DC only in the manual.

Now I'm just confused... :yell: :yell:

Re: AC or DC adapter confusion...

Be sure to match the voltage rating , polarity and have enough current available for the application.

The polarity could be changed if all else is OK

I think the AC109 only refers to the model as it is 9.0 volts DC and 200 milliamps.

Please wait for some comments from the electronics gurus...I'd hate to misguide you on this.

Re: AC or DC adapter confusion...

Do not use an AC adapter of it calls for DC only. You'll run the risk of frying the pedal or the protection circuit within the pedal (if there is one) if you do. AC = alternating current. DC = direct current.

AC109 is just the adapter model number as stated. You're fine as long as the polarity matches what the pedal wants. If you're unsure, use a battery.

Re: AC or DC adapter confusion...

well since AC is what comes out of the wall, isnt there only one thing either a "dc" or "ac" adaptor could do? (turn ac into dc)

You can get AC to AC wall adapters. Like a step down transformer, possibly has some filtering also (not sure).

Re: AC or DC adapter confusion...

ok dont listen to me then.
if you put AC into somehting that needs DC you could **** **** up...

Re: AC or DC adapter confusion...

joeydude...Sorry if my respone upset you man...you are 100% correct...just wanted to point out that the AC to AC is available and that you have to be sure that the output is DC with these things.

Apology accepted? (Canuck to Canuck ...) really didn't intend to insult you or anything.

"geeze quit being such a stereotypical overpolite canadian"

Erik

The water thing is a an inside jab...parts of Vancouver had to use bottled water for a few days due to turbidity after severe rains. Joeydude might have been forced to drink Molsons or Labatts just to keep hydrated.

Cheers:beerchug:

Re: AC or DC adapter confusion...

Dave, didn't hear about that in Vancover. I used the beer reference because it's always something that makes a couple guys having a disagreement to stop and be happy....LOL.

Re: AC or DC adapter confusion...

Are we totally hijacking this thread....oooops

We no longer disagree....joeydude owes me a beer...that's all...lol

Re: AC or DC adapter confusion...

Having looked at both products (gotta love google), I´m 100% certain the Ibanez adaptor will work fine if..

1. It can provide enough current (if not it won´t work at all)
2. The polarity and plug are correct (if not, again, it will not function at all.)

Re: AC or DC adapter confusion...

Thanks alot for the answers guys! ....and for the funny hijack :laugh2:

Here's some pics of the adapter and the side of a HAO SolePressure.

Still seems kinda funny that they had to give the model name "AC" for power supplies that powers DC pedals... confusing for the regular customer. ;)

SolePressure DC9V jack

So... polarity seems correct like Zerb said as well. Gonna try it with the power supply next time I play my PJ & SolePressure combo. Buying new batteries sucks ;)
