Acoustic/Acoustic-Electric Guitars with Good Upper Fret Access

I was wondering if any of you have recommendations for acoustic guitars with particularly good upper fret access. I do a lot of lead work and am looking to get something that has easy access to high registers along with great tone. I'm open to any price point, though I would love to find a model under $1,000.

Unfortunately the the construction of acoustics and acoustic electrics dont allow for carved heels or the like. If you can deal with overhand style playing look for an acoustic with a cutaway.

If you really need a lot of upper fret access, check out the Thinline series by LTD. They're Acoustic/Electric guitars, but much thinner, and feel more like a standard electric. And yes, they do sound like an acoustic, although the sound hole is different looking, if that may bother you. Unplugged, they aren't quite as loud and awesome sounding as the real deal, but plugged into an amp, your 95% there, with 100% of the fret access. Seriously cool guitars in my opinion.

I like the Epiphone Masterbilt series. The dreadnaught is available with a cutaway. I played one, and the upper fret access was as good as any other cutaway I've played.

The electronics on the Epiphone Masterbilt are amazing, btw. And they are well below your budget!

Stratocoustic

Unless it's amplified acoustics really don't project well when playing high on the neck

Possibly an acoustic simulator with your favorite electric would be the trick

I know that I'll never get as good of access as I do with electric, but I've come across some that are a lot better than others. The Mick Thomson Ovation model supposedly had pretty good upper fret access for an acoustic, but those are discontinued from what I understand.

Look at some of the new Taylor's too. There is a thin model that plays like an electric but sounds like an acoustic. Phenomenal guitar imo

If you can find one, a Wechter Pathmaker has amazing upper fret access. Abe Wechter used to be a guitar designer at Gibson and worked closely with John McLaughlin back in the day. He's very talented and this is his design. And they're in your price range.

I don't believe the guitars are still in production. Sweetwater bought the brand a few years back, but I believe it has been mothballed. You should be able to find used ones rather easily.
