Acoustic Pickup: HB, SC, Piezo or Mic it?

I originally (in 1986) used a Seymour Duncan SA-1 to run my 1972 Martin D-18 through my (then) new Roland Jazz Chorus 55 (that I had bought for my first foray into the Electric Guitar relam) and it sounded great. Not overwhelming or anything, just... perfect. No colorization of the tone at all that I could determine with A / B comparisons (in a large room with vaulted ceiling at far end... Victorian house). Now I have both my guitar and amp back (LONNnnng story), but not the pickup. I think I saw it around after I lost the guitar and amp, but... either I was hallucenating or it got "hidden", probably never to be found again.

My question is twofold. First, is that the best pickup to use for my acoustic? Second, since my finances are much more restricted now that I'm retired and I can't really justify the cost of the SA-3 (now just "plain" Acoustic Tube iirc), would a Woody HB color my sound more than the Woody SC would? I do have a Shure 57, so I could just mic it, but a decent stand and all will cost the same as a pickup; but that really might be the best case since I already have the Mic and some consider that the best over a pickup.

Thanks to one and all for any advice you can lend.
