80 20 bronze would be a good choice for recording. They have very crips highs, powerful bottom and good projection or volume. However I find that they die very quickly.
Bronze/phosphor strings are much mellower in overall tone, aren't quite as loud but they last considerably longer.
For me as I don't do a whole lot of recording anymore I prefer the phospor bronze. Specifically D'Adarrio J17's (13 thru 56). I get very good life out of them and they sound great. The J16's are probably more widely used. (12 thru 52 Ithink). How long strings last before you need to replace them has much to do with how you play and how often you play. I also try to wipe the strings down when I am done playing the guitar. This will increase the life of the strings quite a bit.
