does anyone have an opinion on the difference between

80/20 Bronze
D'Addario EJ10 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings

my experience was dull and had none of the zing associated with new Acoustic strings
may be fine on solid-body pretending to be acoustic


Nickel Bronze
D'Addario NB1047 Nickel Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings

I have never tried these and am initially curious about these mostly

Phosphor Bronze
D'Addario EJ15-3D Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings

this is may go-to set
Phosphor Bronze has that zing I expect from new strings
Bright and Jangly

I much prefer PB over other formulations. I have tried *many* acoustic strings and at the end it depends (sometimes greatly) on the instrument. Interestingly I've found my Taylors sound best with Elixir PB - and though they "work" on other guitars, Elixirs are not my first choice on any other acoustic I have ever played / owned. Similarly, I like Martin Lifespan or SPs best on my Martin 15M and not so much on other guitars.

I very much like using D'A'ddario EJ16s and EXP16s on my Yamahas and are probably among the most popular strings out there. I've had success also with DR Sunbeams and Rotosound Jumbo Kings.

You don't mention, what is/are the guitar/s we are talking about?

This might sound odd, but I think of 80/20 as tone right out of the speaker and Phosphor Bronze as that tone after compression, reverb, a little EQ, etc. A fantastic guitar with 80/20 can sound really good, but the Phosphor Bronze adds an additional richness and depth that I really love.

I’m curious what others say but I think 80/20 will drop in a recorded mix better and PB might be better if the acoustic is the featured instrument. (Pure speculation on my part)

Also, I always prefer uncoated for tone, but like my main electrics I’ve been using coated the last few years. With kids, when I get 30 minutes the last thing I want to do is pick
up the instrument and strum dead strings.

I use Nickel Bronze strings for a full body archtop with a magnetic pickup. You get more output with the pickup. Acousticwise you get a very neutral sound.

I like them both on different guitars.
80/20 take a day or so to open up.phosphor sounds fresh out the box.
80/20 clear bell like and strong fundamentals.Phosphor warm and shimmery.

I like 80/20 on my Martin D-15 custom,00-15 and D-18GE
I like Phosphor on the D-35 , D-15 jr and blue ridge 12 string

It all depends on the guitar. DR's sound great on my '70's MIJ Alvarez while D'Addarios sound their best on my Ovation and Epi AJ dreadnaught.

I used to use 80/20s. I hated the PB, found them thin and harsh. I've been using the Martin Monel strings for a while now and love them. Fortunately, they make strings that appeal to all of us.
