I was interested in purchasing a live wire metal pickup but only want one for the bridge which brings me to the question can the live wire metal be put in a guitar that has a passive in the neck. if anyone knows the i would greatly appreciate an answer.

Re: active and passive question

If you are gonna mix actives and passives, I suggest getting an EMG-PA2. It's a pickup booster that increases output up to 20db higher that comes in a mini switch that'll increase the output of your passives to match that of the actives. Theya re pretty cheap... like around 30 bucks I think

Problem doing this with livewires is that EMGs and Livewires are electrically out of phase with each other. You´ll need a Phase inverter to alleviate this problem, in this case it´s not as simple as just swapping 2 leads....

Re: active and passive question

Do you specifically want the Livewire?? Or do you simply want to check out active electronics???

Some pickups just need a boost to get them sounding like a metal pickup

If you just want to get your foot in the door for active stuff, Just get the EMG-PA2 and check it out with the pickups you have now. I had an EMG-PA2 and it was great, I found I only preffered a small boost but thats the greatest part about it...
ITS ADJUSTABLE!!

and you can turn it on and off any time.
(Hey I love active but it really isn't made for every song)

Plus, you only add it to your guitar, don't have to gut everthing out so it doesn't take that long to install it.
