Active for neck...

mustaine-who?

New member
I have a BO AHB-3 EMTYin the bridge of my RG. I'm having a little trouble matching up a neck PuP. I've never like the EMG 85 in the neck...and can't recall what the AHB-1n sounds like...and I have no experience with the AHB-3n in the neck spot. Can anyone make a suggestion for something that has the attributes of a Dimarzio AN or LF? I know actives have their own thing going on. Looking for fluid...modern...

Re: Active for neck...

The AHB-3 EMTY neck pick sounds really good. The best of any active pickup out there. I'd say it's similar to an EMG-60 but better because unlike all EMG's, the EMTY has great dynamics and doesn't sound squashed. I even have a few guitars with the bridge position EMTY in both positions. Sounds killer

I was going to suggest the SD Live Wire Classic II but DN's idea is better.

Re: Active for neck...

AHB-3n is in my experience a somewhat bluesy voiced pickup for leads, mind you i had it in a LP style guitar tho so your experience may vary. Warm, had a similar feel to a '59, great tone but not the most articulate. To my understanding the mustaine livewires are supposed to be like the jazz/jb, maybe that neck would be a bit more fluid than ahb-3n.

Pretty sure that's a no-go. Different pot values for the LWs and BO's..plus I hate the Jazz. Mid-scooped and dull...

But I appreciate your comment on the 59-like feel. Not what I'm looking for either. Maybe a EMG 60 or 81...
