Active Pickups

I dont know what it means by "active" pickup? I was looking into the Duncan Metal Livewire and it said it was an active pickup. if someone could explain what this means to me, i'd appreciate it greatly

An "active" pickup simply means that it requires external power. You would need to install a battery box inside the guitar to power the p'ups, which have a built-in pre-amp.

(External to the pickup . . . internal to the guitar.)
