so a buddy of mine just picked up a fender strat. its a hss. he wants to put emgs in it. im curious how you go about dealing with the battery when the compartment is under the pickguard. seems like a pain to have to remove the strings every time you wanna replace the battery. so how do they do it?

Re: active's in a strat?

You will replace strings literally like 5 times before you have to change the battery as long as you unplug between playing it. Also, if you don't use the trem, you can block it and wedge the battery in the trem cavity as well. Finally, there is a new Fishman back plate that is a rechargeable battery.

i have blackouts in a strat and i blocked the trem and put the battery under the trem spring cover, works great

Re: active's in a strat?

You don't need to have batteries mounted inside the guitar. You can wire the pickups straight to the jack and build a phantom power box to supply power. The only thing you would do different is use a stereo cable so you can deliver power to the pickups on one side and return signal on the other side.

I place the 9 volt battery under the pick guard between the 5 way switch and pots

Re: active's in a strat?

I always wanted to try livewires classic SC for strat. They must sound great, while still retaining vintage look.

Re: active's in a strat?

As PF said, the battery is changed once a year at most. Do what one of my friends does: have someone set it up when you change the battery. He has an EMG SSS strat and I set it up for him and change out batteries and such.

Re: active's in a strat?

duncans two active offerings are both really nice. the livewires sound like classic strat pups while the blackouts are much middier and modern sounding. both really cool.
