Adam's Jackson USA SL1 Soloist Review!

Driving home from work I kept telling myself not to get my hopes up and expect my Soloist a day earlier than expected. I kept trying to remind myself its scheduled to arrive the next day (thanks DHL for keeping it all in one piece).

But when my dad yells "Guitar Man" when I'm walking in, its a pretty subtle hint theres a box laying on my bed. So I open it.

Instantly I'm awe struck by a finely detailed lightning bolt that scorches the blackness that you can easily be lost in. Its Black, and I mean BLACK! Don't fear though cause the binding surely helped me find a neck that guided me beyond anything I could expect.

The neck is amazing, very fast, the action sets perfect. This instrument is demanding and has every right to be. While in mid shred I found my playing sloppy getting used to this neck, but soon I got the hang of it. (Plus I'm tired from working all day...) It has a dominating sustain that can spill a rain of notes till the end of days.

Plugging this amp into my Rectifier, it sounded thick. Much thicker than my Strat punching a JB Jr., and yes theres a huge difference between the JB and JB Jr. even my parents who don't really notice a change in tone heard it. Hell how could they miss it, I was blasting this baby. Definately I was ripping through some wicked riffs. I found the Classic Stacks even amazing. The cleans sounded beautiful.

Of course I'm going to be looking for a pup change, probably go for a Custom. But this Soloist makes me happy, I wasn't able to put it down. I'm still having a hard time sitting here typing this damn review while its laying there.

Pics are going to have to come later folks. Right now I can barely contain myself. But from playing this guitar I can really say I'm in heaven, and this is all within the few hours I've jammed on it.

The craftsmanship is just awsome. Jackson USA make incredible guitars, I'm very happy with this buy. And not to mention the dealer who definately helped me out.

So a shout out to Scott of Vwall Guitars! He helped me, made my dream of owning a Soloist a reality. If your after a Jackson, save your money and go for it. They are worth every penny, I couldn't be happier!

This guitar makes me want to play better, I have to, its the least I can do.

I'm sure I'm going to add more as I keep experiencing the Soloist. Expect pics up sometime. I promise I'll post some! Right now I'm gonna go play.

Re: Adam's Jackson USA SL1 Soloist Review!

I think it's probably not a bad move to switch out the JB for a Custom. The Custom, IMO, has a nicer lead tone for the SL1 than does the JB. It's rounder, more distinct, and has a certain je ne sais quoi. Don't get me wrong, I like the JB okay, actually, from a pure tone standpoint I really like it - and I've gone round robin with the JB-Custom-Distortion and back again. But I think there is some truth to the myth that the JB loses bottom end and articulation in a SL1. It sounds great in some axes, but my opinion is that the Soloist wants either a Custom or a Distortion if your going for big metal. It needs a bigger engine I suppose. I've talked to several Jackson owners who tend to agree. Mine came with 250k pots, and I switched out for 500s.

As for big tone, I agree, the Soloist gets high marks in that department.

Also for the workmanship. I am amazed to this day the fit and finish quality of mine. I love my LP, but I tell you my Soloist was 400 bucks less, but better constructed with a perfect setup out of the box.

Congrats. Enjoy. I think I'll go play mine now.

Damnit... I've been GASing for a while. I may have to put my 7 string requirement aside and snag an SL1 or 2H... Damnit.

Did you find the high frets feel a little cramped on this guitar? Thats the only flaw I found on that guitar, Id probably get used to it though. Anway congrats on the purchase.

Can´t speak for him, but on all of mine they´re no closer together than any other guitar with a 25.5" scale.... my 24.75" Fusion and Gibson are much worse in that regard...

Re: Adam's Jackson USA SL1 Soloist Review!

Honestly this axe rocks guys. I'm in love. I couldn't even sleep last night, but I was so damn tired that I eventually passed out. Instead of putting it on a stand, I put her back in the case. I didn't want anything to 'happen'.

As far as the upper frets, hell man before I logged in thats where I was digging in on the fret board. I don't feel anything cluttered about them, if anything its amazing. I'm trying to actually get my hand used to going further up the neck without restriction.

I can't find anything about this guitar I don't like. I especially love the details like the binding, I love the binding. Along with the mother of pearl Jackson logo, it gleams beautifully.

I'll take some cool pics today, but they have to get made cause I don't have a decent digital camera that could do it justice.

Re: Adam's Jackson USA SL1 Soloist Review!

Wow very cool man, I'm suprised it got to you so quickly. What was it only 3 months? And yes, the upper fret access is extremely easy.

Re: Adam's Jackson USA SL1 Soloist Review!
