Addicted to SS Frets!!

Last 2 guitars I bought to play both have Stainless frets and I'm addicted to them now! Bends are SO buttery smooth sustain like crazy and also get no fretting noise. Now when I play my guitars with regular nickle frets they just don't feel right anymore. Doubt I will ever own another guitar that I buy new without Stainless Frets. The Red Carvin ST 300 and the Red Kiesel have now spoiled me forever!! When I first got the ST 300 I thought it had regular nickle frets nope just had sat for a long time in the case unplayed and were a little dull and dirty. Soon as I started playing it out she got that slick and glassy feeling on the bends just like the Kiesel. Now those 2 are my 1 and 2 players.
Who else is a convert to Stainless frets?

I have stainless frets on my Warmoth, and love them. If I get anything refretted, it will be with SS.

Understand and was talking to a guy about fretting the KOA 93 in SS as I absolutely LOVE that neck. Boy they hit you hard in the wallet for SS don't they? Sure fire way to kill a good fret file the stuff is so hard. Every one I have talked to want at the least an extra $100 just to work with SS over nickle steel. IMO after living with these 2 for a while it's worth every penny though!

It's money well spent if they do a pro-quality job, but that applies for any fretwork really.

Yea this is the thing for me.

BTW has anyone here ever had to get a polish or leveling on ss frets due to fretwear? Do they actually wear down that much or just stay about the same, provided you use regular strings?

I've never had to really maintain SS frets in any fashion...they look like they did when I got them and feel exactly the same.

They are very time consuming to work with!

Files aren’t a problem, but standard fret tang nippers, and flush cutters won’t work. I have to use a cutoff wheel on a Dremel to cut them.

And they have to be at exactly the right radius, since they don’t bend to conform to the fretboard as nickel silver frets do.

I’m currently refretting a LP with SS. Pain in the ass! Lol

They don’t wear since they are much harder than nickel strings. SS strings might cause wear eventually.

That's good to know. My j custom with ss frets was listed on the Ibanez site as "jumbo ss" but they are definitely smaller than the jumbo ss on my Ibanez AZ. Same as on my LP studio but ss. I actually like the height but am scared of ever needing a leveling as any lower and it's too low for my taste.
