Adding a bar magnet underneath an alnico sc:
Has anyone tried this? (hahah, of course you have) After slaughtering a no name guitar, I removed the bar magnets, and now I'm thinking I can try putting them under different alnico rod pups (leaving the original alnico magnets in place). Will this ever yield good results? I tried, just for fun, to add it to crappy tele neck pup which I found way too weak and muddy. And well, no surprise really, it got stronger, but not really less muddy (though slightly more useful since the difference in volume wasn't as apparent)
Now I'm thinking about trying this on my APTL-1 and my neck/bridge tex-mex strat pups.
Any input? I'd hate to spend time doing this and trying to dial in a tone only to find it just sounds really bad.
